EEUA at MEDU conference 2014 (Mumbai, India)
This summer EEUAparticipated in MEDU conference 2014 in Mumbaiand visited several cities of India – Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad(June 26-July 2, 2014, India). The second annual higher education event was organized by India’s leading travel and education agency – MOKSH. This year EEUA introduced a delegation of Russian universities representatives on MEDU: Ural Federal University and Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov. Besides our Chinese colleagues from Jiangsu University took part in the event too.
MEDU conference has very interesting format that combines 2main parts: university networking meetings and student fair.
During the first part of the conference EEUA and Russian universities conducted personal meetings with Institute of Chemical Technology (Mumbai, India), Bharath University (Chennai, India), Jiangsu University (Jiangsu, China), Gujarat Technological University(Gujarat, India), Institute of Bioinformatics and applied Biotechnology, University of Mysore (Bangalore,India),Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (Hyderabad, India).
The second part of MEDU conference was devoted to direct “university-student” communication. The student fair consisted of general PPT presentations on behalf of the university representatives and personal interaction section with students and their parents. More than 150 prospective students, interested in obtaining medical and engineering degrees in Russia and China, attended the event. Students and their parents were inspired by university presentations and videos. Many of them showed great interest to Russia, its culture, traditions and education opportunities.
During the visit EEUA and Russian universities were really impressed by Indian hospitality and warm greetings. Very nice Indian dress – sari – is a dream gift for every lady. All foreign female delegates weregiven a lovely sari. Young Indian ladies even helped to put them on. After that, there was a fascinating and enjoyable photo-session. Another outstanding part of the visit was a visit to Indian restaurant, where EEUA representative took the opportunity to be involved in cooking Indian specialty –appa (a kind of cup-shaped rice pancake). It was very exciting experience for everybody, including restaurant staff.
In addition to this fruitful visit to India,Russian delegation was invited for a campus tour to Bharath University (Chennai, India). During this tour, all delegates had the opportunity to meet personally BU Vice-Chancellorand high-qualified faculty staff and get acquainted with student facilities, classrooms and technical laboratories.
It should be noted that MOKSH as usual took great care of the university representatives’ free time having organized a sightseeing tour around the city in frame of which the participants were able to see the main attractions of Mumbai –The Gateway of India, Chatrapati Shivaji, Victoria Terminus, VT Station, Chowpatty and Marine Drive and the grand Taj Mahal hotel.
Definitely, the visit to MEDU conference 2014 turned out to be an excellent opportunity for EEUA and Russian universities to establish cooperation with Indian HEIs and attract Indian students to Russia.
