August 06, 2014, EEUA General Director traveled to the second-smallest country in South America – Uruguay, to its infamous capital city Montevideo. Home to almost 50% of the nation`s population, Montevideo is a modern metropolis with a historical old town dating back to colonial times.
The purpose of the visit was the meeting with the Association of Universities Group of Montevideo (AUGM) consisting of 35 leading universities from Brazil, Argentine, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chili and Bolivia. The meeting took place on the premises of the so-called University of the Republic (Uruguay) (Universidad de la República in Spanish).
In frame of the meeting EEUA met with the President of AUGM – Mr. Abog. Albor Cantard, who is also the Rector of Universidad Nacional Del Litoral, and other members of the Association. The participants of the meeting discussed the current situation in international higher education and shared their experience.
EEUA Director made a presentation about Eastern European University Association, its activity and main goals, education in Eastern Europe in general, statistics of foreign students in Russia & Ukraine, main advantages and challenges of studying in Russia. The exclusive data of EEUA survey about the readiness of CIS universities for international cooperation was also partially presented within the presentation. For the facilitation of information comprehension the presentation was translated into Spanish language.
It was agreed to develop long-term cooperation between EEUA and AUGM in different int’l HE aspects, especially in view of the favourable political policy of Russia towards South America. BRICS membership of Russia and Brazil also plays an important role in the development of successful HE cooperation between the 2 countries.
Also EEUA acquainted AUGM with International Universities Networking Conference – its objectives and benefits of participation. All AUGM member universities were offered special favourable participation conditions.
We are extremely grateful to AUGM for inviting us to attend this significant event and present EEUA to a big number of South American universities.
Special credits should be passed to the team of Mr Juan Manuel Sotelo (AUGM Asistente de programas y Proyectos) for the excellent preparation of the meeting.
Finally, we would like to express our deep gratitude for assistance in the development of cooperation between our associations to our partners and friends:
