September 16-18, 2015, EEUA, as a part of Univerisities Union of Eurasia (UUE), participated in the annual second large international event on HigherEd - EAIE 2015 in Glasgow, UK. This year Russia and CIS were represented by several Russian universities, Project 5-100, Begin Group and UUE, besides, there were a few delegates from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan without booths. The EAIE 2015 conference proved again that foreign universities are very interested in cooperation with Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other CIS. UUE conducted about 150 personal meetings with HEIs from  UK, USA, Australia, Turkey, Germany, Spain, Finland, Canada, Hungary, Bulgaria, France, New Zealand, Taiwan, China, South Korea, The Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Poland, Belgium, Latvia, Lithuania, Malaysia, South Africa, Czech Republic, Singapore, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and other Latin American countries. The majority of foreign universities asked UUE about general situation in the HigherEd sphere on the territory of CIS countries and about the most popular ways of cooperation for our local institutions. The delegates of foreign HEIs were very impressed by the number of languages which the student may choose when studying in Russia & CIS (according to EEUA`s latest survey, the Educational programs are delivered in all native languages of CIS countries as well as in English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Greek, Vietnamese and German). They discussed with EEUA staff the main ways of university cooperation such as student/faculty exchanges, dual degrees/other joint edu programs, join grant applications, scholarships and short-term programs. UUE`s representatives were very glad to meet new universities as well as our long-term partners, who came just to say hello or ask for our assistance in establishing contacts with institutions from Russia & CIS. We are sure that EAIE 2015 will inspire a lot of new academic partnerships.

From our side we would like to highlight a special interest in cooperation from the universities of South Africa. During the EAIE 2015 we had very fruitful meetings with Ms Merle McOmbring-Hodges (Cape Peninsula University of Technology) and Mr Leolyn Jackson (University of the Western Cape). This strong interest in academic cooperation is stipulated by the BRICS countries community. The UUE, as the organizer of the Global Series of IUNC events, invited Ms McOmbring-Hodges to become a speaker at IUNC Eurasia 2016 and participate in the round-table devoted to the BRICS HigherEd Cooperation, representing the South Africa. As another point of the BRICS cooperation development, UUE is planning to participate in the next IEASA 2016 conference.

Promoting Russian Culture and Traditions, UUE decided to continue the practice of arranging the Russian Reception at the largest Int`l HigherEd exhibitions. For the latest Russian Reception in Glasgow, UK, we brought a Samovar - the famous Russian traditional tea-maker, which was hand painted specially for the occasion. The Samovar was the main prize for UUE`s drawing. It went to Ms Agnes Leyrer from Central European University, Hungary. The guests of the Russian reception also won many other Russian Traditional Souvenirs, participating in funny contests and doing some exercises. Matreshka, Budenovka, Ushanka, Magic Mirror in Beresta and other hand-made souvenirs are the frequent guests at our events as the rewards. In addition, all Russian Reception participants enjoyed traditional Russian appetizers and drinks – pickled cucumbers, herring, boubliks, cheese, brown bread and vodka!

We would like to thank all our guests for coming and active participating in the cultural program of Russian Reception!

We hope to see you again soon!
