Asian Summit on Education & Skills 2019

DIDAC India Exhibition 2019

The 6th Annual Asian Summit on Education & Skills (ASES 2019) took place in Bangalore, India, on September 22-24. The event was attended by the representatives of Ministries of Education from 16 countries of Asia, Europe, Oceania, and Australia, as well as the representatives of universities from around the world. Russia and the CIS were represented by the Eastern European Universities Association (EEUA). Yulia Yakovleva, Director of International Marketing and University Relations of EEUA, held a number of meetings with universities, colleges and high schools of India as well as with the attendees from other countries, interested in cooperation with Russia.

"ASES is an exciting event in the region, we are taking part in it for the first time, and I am sure, we will do our best to attend it every year,"- says Yulia, - “Indian HEIs asked a lot about opportunities to study Medicine and STEM in Russia. Almost all institutions, I met, were interested in cooperation with Russian universities – high schools are looking for good options to send their students to study abroad, and the universities are looking for institutional partnerships such as joint degrees, joint researches, student exchanges, etc.”

Foreign HEIs complain about obstacles they meet with when they try to reach the institutions in Russia. They mentioned that Russian universities are underrepresented at the International HigherEd events, university websites have poor usability and it is a challenge to find any information via the Internet. Of course, global conferences are attended by the largest and the most famous Russian HEIs, but not all of them are interested in cooperation with small regional counterparts from abroad. In this regard, the heads of Indian educational institutions were very glad to know that the Eastern European Universities Association annually hosts the IUNC Eurasia conference, which is devoted to cooperation with Russian universities and facilitates inter-university relations and partnerships development.

"For every foreign university interested in cooperation with Russia, this conference is a must-attend event! This is a great opportunity for us to meet many Russian universities in one place. We plan to come to Moscow for the next IUNC Eurasia 2020 conference with a delegation of Afghan universities,” says Pardeep Sharma, Director of International Relations at Rana University (Afghanistan). In 2019, the Association of Private Universities and institutes of higher education in Afghanistan (APUIHEA) and the Eastern European Universities Association (EEUA) signed an agreement of intent (MoU) and expressed readiness to actively develop cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan in the field of higher education.

Following the summit, on 25-26 September 2019, Bangalore International Exhibition Center hosted the largest industry exhibition on products and services for education in the Asia-Pacific region - DIDAC India 2019, in which EEUA also participated. In total, both events were attended by more than 5,000 representatives of the education sector from India and 32 foreign countries. For 4 days more than 35 sessions and 30 workshops were held, where about 150 speakers spoke.
