Successful Collaboration with Student Recruitment Agents: Insights from Novosibirsk (Russia)
Strategic Partnership Event for International Student Recruitment
Novosibirsk State University hosted a significant networking event on March 13-14, connecting international recruitment agents with universities across Novosibirsk. This strategic gathering brought together agents from key markets including Iran, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Egypt, as well as agencies recruiting from multiple international regions. Mr Bogdan Voronovskiy, EEUA General Director, participated in the event as a Invited Expert and delivered a speech on Cooperation with Student Recruitment Agencies and general Foreign Student Recruitment issues.
Event Highlights
- Universities provided comprehensive campus tours and detailed presentations
- Agents received complimentary accommodation and meals throughout the event
- In-depth discussions on admission requirements and processes
- Collaborative problem-solving sessions addressing key recruitment challenges
Addressing Commission Structures
A central topic was developing sustainable commission models. Many agents invest significant resources in promoting partner universities but face challenges when institutions don`t offer commission structures. This often forces agents to charge students directly for services, creating potential circumvention issues when students later approach universities independently.
Proposed Partnership Models
- Differential Pricing Structure Implementing tuition fees for agency-recruited students that are 10-20% below standard rates, allowing agencies to collect full tuition from students while paying discounted rates to universities
- Performance-Based Compensation Structuring commission payments as retroactive advertising service fees, payable upon successful student enrollment and tuition payment
- Territorial Exclusivity Agreements Offering agents exclusive or semi-exclusive rights to represent universities within specific geographic regions
Moving Forward
The event, expertly organized by Evgeny Sagaydak, the Head of International Office of Novosibirsk State University and his team, exemplifies how universities and recruitment agencies can collaborate effectively to benefit all stakeholders in international education. Such initiatives help develop transparent recruitment processes while addressing the legitimate business needs of education agents.
